PRINCE George was feted by his great grandmother the Queen at his first birthday party today surrounded by his parents and their closest friends.
The royal toddler took centre stage but his great grandmother was quest of honour at a tea party which, by royal tradition since the Queen's childhood, usually involves the children eating jam sandwiches made in the shape of an old penny.
The 88-year-old monarch stayed for just under an hour at the party inside the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's 21-room apartment at Kensington Palace.
