Prince Harry met the families of four British men aiming to recreate an epic journey made by 32 young Dutchmen who escaped their Nazi-occupied homeland of the Netherlands during World War II. Only eight of the 1941 group known as The Engelandvaarders (The England Voyagers) survived the crossing. A memorial to those who those who lost their lives stands on Sizewell beach. The Prince paid a visit to Sizewell beach to mark the expected completion of the 40-hour kayaking voyage for charity across 118 miles of open water. Getty Images

Four men from Suffolk – including personal friend of Prince Harry Olly Hicks – were joined by two Dutchmen as they began the trip on Monday night.
