Queen Comes Fishing for Cork Trader to Sign Photo | Irish Examiner

THE wise-cracking Irish fishmonger who made the Queen laugh out loud has been asked to autograph one of her favourite photographs of her historic visit.

British ambassador Julian King has asked Cork’s English Market trader Pat O’Connell to sign the snap which captured him sharing a joke with Queen Elizabeth II as she visited his stall on the final day of her state visit in May.

Mr King also asked Mr O’Connell to pen a short personal note, fuelling hopes that it may become part of the Queen’s personal collection.

Brooches, usually worn on the left shoulder, were a favourite for the royal and the Queen was believed to have over 100 in her collection. A selection that would go with an outfit were presented to her - usually three at a time - by her senior dresser and confidante Angela Kelly on special trays that once belonged to Queen Mary. The royal had a wide variety of different brooches which she often wore with her usual pearl earrings and necklace, including a spray of flowers brooch by the people and government of Australia during her Coronation tour of 1954./
