A record number of visitors - more than 600,000, according to British press reports - saw the Sarah Burton-designed satin-and-lace gown when it was on display at Buckingham Palace during the annual summer opening of Queen Elizabeth II's London residence. The exhibit, which also featured some of the Duchess of Cambridge's accessories, her bouquet and her cake, closed Sunday after 10 weeks.
The dress, which was acclaimed when the former Kate Middleton wore it for her April 29 wedding to Prince William of Wales, is expected to be placed in storage and may not be seen in public again, or at least not anytime soon, in order to preserve it in pristine condition.
