The 20,000-acre Sandringham estate was bought by the future Edward VII for £220,000 in 1862.

AmaraGeorge V lived there, referring to it as ‘the place I love better than anywhere in the world’. Like his father, George VI loved the place.

AmaraThe Spencers, too, had well-established links with the estate. Diana’s parents, Johnny and Frances Spencer, took over the lease of Park House in 1955.

It meant that Lady Diana, born in 1961 – a year after Prince Andrew – was literally the girl next door to the young Royals.

Although Diana is forever associated with Althorp, the Spencer family seat in Northamptonshire where she is buried, she spent her earliest years close to Anmer.

Her home was Park House, just a short drive from Kate and William’s house.

Park House is a ten-bedroom Victorian mansion with bow windows, servant’s cottages, stables, a tennis court and a swimming pool.

Her house could be seen from the windows of Sandringham and she grew up mingling with them.

HarrodsJanet Thompson, a former nanny to the Spencer children, recalls peeking into the Sandringham drawing room and seeing the Queen playing hide-and-seek with six-year-old Andrew and five-year-old Diana.

It lies half-a-mile from the main Sandringham House and three miles from Anmer Hall. Click link for full post from The Daily Mail.
