New exhibition opening on Queen's 90th birthday tells stories behind some of the most spectacular dresses she has worn
When the Queen needed to wow the American people on her first visit to the US as monarch, she knew exactly who to turn to: Sir Norman Hartnell, the man who designed her wedding and coronation robes.
The result was this stunning pale green crinoline evening dress hand-embroidered with sequins, pearls, beads and diamante designed to twinkle in the candlelight of a dinner with President Eisenhower.
More than half a century on, the dress, which has all the opulence of a previous Elizabethan age, is to go on display on the Queen’s 90th birthday in April at one of three exhibitions celebrating her life in fashion.
It will be one of the highlights of Fashioning a Reign: 90 Years of Style From The Queen’s Wardrobe, which runs at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh from April 21 to October 16. Click link for full post from The Telegraph.
