As patron of the Games, which take place a short distance from the Royal’s summer retreat on the Balmoral estate, the 90-year-old monarch joined thousands of revellers who turned out to cheer on participants in the tossing of caber and tug of war contest.

Crowds also enjoyed performances from pipers and drummers and Highland dancing.

Queen Victoria first attended the annual event in 1848 and since then it has become a regularly visited event by the reigning monarch and other members of the Royal family.

Her royal highness first attended Braemer at seven-years-old in 1933.

The event on Royal Deeside is always on the first Saturday in September. This year, it raised funds for residents affected when the River Dee burst its banks in December. Last year's event marked 200 years of the society, which organises it.  Click link for full post from EXPRESS.
