Dr Bill Frankland is a 105-year-old allergist who served with the Royal Army Medical Corps during the Second World War and was captured when Singapore fell to Japanese forces.
The doctor, who still writes papers for medical journals, described how he was asked to help the Iraqi leader in the late 1970s: "I treated Saddam Hussein, they said he was doing very badly with hay fever and asthma and was getting worse and worse and so they sent for me - they said I was the best allergist in Europe.
