Following their visit to the White Garden, the Duchess retired into Kensington Palace while the Princes made an unannounced trip to the gates to view flowers and tributes left in Diana's honour by fans of the royal who was killed in a Paris car crash on August 31 1997,
Walking in front of several hundred well-wishers, they waved and smiled before taking a few minutes to read the cards and banners. Noting a large display of photographs, he added: 'They've put a banner up.'
Prince Harry smiled at the sight of a large balloon lying among the flowers, while William pointed out a childhood photograph of him and his mother in sunglasses. 'Look at my shades,' he said, laughing.
