Queen's Jewels On Display in Honor of Diamond Jubilee

Caption: Queen Victoria's small diamond crown. Many of the jewels were lost after the Civil War and remade for Charles II’s coronation in 1661. This crown was specially designed for Queen Victoria to wear whilst mourning the loss of Prince Albert. Its size allowed it to be worn on top of her veil, and it contains 1, 187 diamonds, which were acceptable to wear during mourning. Photo: The Royal Collection (c) Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

A new exhibition of the crown jewels will be unveiled later this month to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. The crown jewels have always provided a spectacle, attracting an audience of around 2.5 million people each year.

This exhibition will feature newly restored film footage of the Queen's coronation and will present the jewels in improved lighting. The display consists of a large variety of crowns, sceptres, orbs, swords, and rings and will be displayed in the order that they were used in the coronation ceremony. Read Full Post From The Telegraph
