They were shot by keen amateur photographer Kate at the Cambridge's Norfolk home. Initially they weren't intended for public consumption but the Duchess decided to release them as a way of thanking the media and British public for allowing her children the chance to grow up away from the spotlight.

Snapped by her adoring mother, the Duchess of Cambridge, this is little Princess Charlotte at six months old.
Not seen in public since her christening in July, two photographs of the fourth in line to the throne have today been released by Kensington Palace as a thank you to the British media for giving William and Kate's children the chance to grow up away from the spotlight.
With her thick brunette hair, Charlotte is very much her mother's daughter, in contrast to her elder brother, Prince George, two, who has inherited his father's blonde locks.
