Over the years, they have endured their fair share of marital woes, deaths, fires, toe-sucking scandals and in 1992 the Queen dubbed the year her “annus horribilis.”
Yet, as 2017 draws to a close, royal watchers suggest that this was a great year for the family - one that will be remembered for all of the right reasons.
The most noteworthy moment of 2017, so far, for many, has been the engagement of Prince Harry, 33, to his American beau Meghan Markle, 36.
News of the couple’s engagement in November 2017 delighted even the most hardened of hearts as the pair put on a display of affection on our TV screens.
Prince Charles said: “We wish them a lifetime of happiness and are very excited for their future together.”
