Caption: Royal baby news: Kate's due date is imminent. THE Royal Baby is due this month but despite being a great grandchild of the Queen he or she will technically be a commoner when Kate and Prince William welcome their new child.
Historian Marlene Koenig told Town & Country that technically, the new royal bundle of joy will technically be born a commoner.
She said: "It sounds complicated, but in the UK, the only people who are not commoners are the Sovereign and peers of the realm, [people with titles like] Duke, Marquess, Earl, Viscount, and Baron.”
This rule means even Prince Harry is a commoner - until he receives a Dukedom with his marriage to Meghan Markle.
But despite being a ‘commoner’, the new baby will have an impressively long title, just like siblings George and Charlotte.
If Kate and William's new addition is a boy, his formal title will be, His Royal Highness Prince (Name) of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
If it's a girl, her formal title will be, Her Royal Highness Princess (Name) of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Read More From EXPRESS.
